FRIED GREEN PLANTAINS (TOSTONES)

INGREDIENTS
  • 2 cups Pure Wesson® Canola Oil
  • 2 green plantains, peeled
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons Hunt's® Tomato Ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons light mayonnaise
  • 4 teaspoons prepared yellow mustard

DIRECTIONS

Heat oil in large skillet over medium-high heat to 350°F. Meanwhile, cut plantains in half crosswise; cut halves in half lengthwise.

Fry plantain pieces, in batches, 2 minutes, on each side, or until golden yellow. Remove from skillet; drain on paper towels. Flatten pieces between sheets of waxed paper using a tostonera or side of can. Fry flattened pieces, in batches, 2 to 3 minutes more or until golden brown, turning once. Drain on paper towels.

Sprinkle with garlic salt and pepper. Serve with ketchup, mayonnaise and mustard.
